Indiana Senator Evan Bayh recently recognized Rose-Hulman alumnus Nick Mahurin as an example of an entrepreneur whose success is being assisted by the new Terre Haute Innovation Alliance, a partnership involving Rose-Hulman, the Terre Haute Economic Development Corporation, and Indiana State University. The recognition took place at the Small Business Summit at Indiana State University on August 23, 2007. During the visit, Bayh also met with Rose-Hulman President Gerald Jakubowski.

Senator Bayh cited Mahurin for his success in creating his third company, InfraWare, which serves the medical transcription service industry by hosting a robust transcription service platform. During his presentation, Mahurin also recognized the assistance he has received in the development of his new company from project managers and students at Rose-Hulman Ventures. Bayh’s support made it possible for the City of Terre Haute to receive a $500,000 federal grant to create the Innovation Alliance.

Bayh commented on the impact of small businesses. “In Indiana, 1.3 million Hoosiers—roughly
half of our state’s workforce—are employed by small businesses. Small business growth and development is fueling our economy and creating innovative, good-paying 21st century jobs for middle class Hoosiers.”

Bayh also hosted small business summits and job fairs in four other Indiana cities: Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Kokomo and South Bend.
