Rose-Hulman Ventures, Patricia Carlson Finalists at Mira Awards Rose-Hulman Ventures and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology professor Patricia Carlson were noted for their achievements in using technology to enhance education during this year's TechPoint Mira Awards, Indiana’s most recognized technology awards.
Honored during the awards presentation on May 18 in Indianapolis were Bill Kline, associate dean for professional experience at Rose-Hulman Ventures, and Carlson, professor of American literature. Rose-Hulman Ventures was among three finalists in the Education Contribution to Technology – Department/Program/Team category. The program is focused on providing unique educational opportunities for Rose-Hulman students by assisting technology-driven businesses in the development of new products and services. RHV has provided 1,497 internship opportunities for more than 532 students ranging from the technical development of medical devices to analytical instrumentation. Carlson was a finalist in the Education Contributions to Technology – Individual category. She developed the Portal Resource for Indiana Science and Mathematics (PRISM), which is providing valuable digital resources for middle school teachers. In other categories, AccuTemp Products, Inc. of Fort Wayne received a Mira Award in the Advanced Manufacturing Company category. Accepting the award was Dean Stanley, a 1984 Rose-Hulman mechanical engineering graduate and AccuTemp Products' vice president of engineering. Rose-Hulman Ventures has helped develop the technology for other nominated companies including BioStorage, Digonex Technologies, Gateway Electronic Medical Management, and ICX/Griffin Analytical Technologies. The Mira Awards, now in their eighth year, acknowledge and pay tribute to the top performers, innovators and contributors in technology-related industries. Finalists represented the top nominees in 12 categories. There were a record 80 nominations from across Indiana for this year’s awards. |
