Beckman Coulter, Inc. partnered with Rose-Hulman Ventures to improve the software for one of Beckman Coulter’s automated laboratory robots. The new software
significantly expands the robotic system’s ability to perform complicated
maneuvers, while making it easier to configure the system for operation.

A team of six software engineering and computer science interns, led by Rose-Hulman Ventures project manager Will Mathies, enhanced the robotic software through collaboration with Beckman Coulter engineers. The project involved all phases of software development: discovery, design, coding, and testing. Students utilized powerful new software development tools and created automated tests using the latest
technology. The software delivered will integrate into an established software
framework for use in larger integrated systems with multiple robots. The result is
a more cost-effective automation solution for Beckman Coulter’s customers.

Beckman Coulter, Inc. develops, manufactures and markets products that
simplify, automate and innovate complex biomedical tests. Beckman
Coulter systems operate in laboratories around the world, supplying critical
information for improving patient health and reducing the cost of care.
